The idea for radio grayblog arose after I spotted several weblogs around the world featuring a list of recently played music, generally powered by the excellent
BlogAmp utility.
This seemed all very well, but one of the problems I have with BlogAmp is that you can't actually click on the lists to hear the music played, especially as it is pretty unlikely that you will have heard of all, much or even any of the music listed.
So I gave some consideration to how I could do something better, and the natural conclusion was to set up an online radio station that plays my music. This would mean that visitors to my site would actually be able to hear the things I like, and I'd be able to listen to my favourite music at work without having to cart my entire CD collection around with me!
Naturally, issues such as hosting and royalties immediately presented themselves. After much detailed investigation, I settled on using the
Live365 service, which is reasonably priced and neatly deals with these issues.
Thus, at 7.30pm BST on 2 August 2002, radio grayblog was born.
radio grayblog broadcasts 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. It systematically works through the playlist in the order shown below. The playlist is currently about nine and a half hours long and consists of around 120 tracks - so, if you listen to it all day at work, you shouldn't hear the same track twice.
Additionally, I'll be changing the playlist at frequent intervals to keep it reasonably fresh and interesting.
To listen to radio grayblog, you need to join and log in at
Live365. You will find full instructions on how do this at their site, and it is free of charge.
Once you have done this, or if you are already a member, you can launch radio grayblog by going to the
radio grayblog page at Live365 and hitting the "play" symbol.
Live365 has a comprehensive online help facility, if you should get stuck.
