Four minute nuisance

I have Akismet installed on this blog. Today, it caught its 50,000th spam comment since installation. That’s 50,000 spams in just 139 days or 360 spam comments per day – one every four minutes. Which begs two questions – if everyone used Akismet, would spam commenting stop? And how does anyone survive *without* Akismet?

I get about a trackback spam every two minutes during some periods. Boggles my mind.

I have had zero comment spam in the last two months… and a handful in the last year.

    *wanders off looking smug (ish)*

I have my site set up so that all comments require moderation, unless the author has a previously approved comment. At the moment, I only get a couple of attempted spams per week, but if I were getting 360 per day then I’d probably move to akismet as well.
